Santa Ana College and Orange Coast Dominate All-Conference Honors
Orange Coast sophomore Matt Moynihan and sophomore teammate Jordan Beck have been selected as the Orange Empire Conference Players of the Year and Santa Ana sophomore ace Ben Burke was named the conference Pitcher of the Year in a vote of conference coaches. Moynihan led the conference in several categories, including batitng average (.480), on base percentage (.534), slugging percentage and (.667). Beck, a first baseman, finished fourth in the batting average race with a .416 average and led the conference in hits (37) and RBIS with 28.
Meanwhile, Burke anchored a pitching staff, which posted a conference-best 3.66 ERA. Burke finished the 21-conference game season with an ERA of 2.89. He made eight starts, working 53 innings. He allowed 58 hits, 20 runs (17 earned), while striking out 33, while walking 17. He finished the conference season with a 5-2 record. Santa Ana’s head coach Don Sneddon was selected the conference coach of the year as he guided the Dons to the 2011 conference championship by two games over Orange Coast.
In all, the conference recognized 18 players on the first team and another 20 on the second team.
