All-Orange Empire Conference Softball Team Announced

The Orange Empire Conference fastpitch softball coaches selected Saddleback College shortstop Christina Bolin as the conference's Player of the Year for 2011 while Riverside City College's Nichole Zink was named as the conference Pitcher of the Year.

Bolin, a freshman out of Ramona High School (Riverside), led the conference in batting average (.507), hits (38), doubles (11), and home runs (8). She had more extra-base hits (20) than any player in the conference and accounted for 75 total bases in 75 at-bats for a 1.000 slugging percentage. Zink, a freshman out of Roosevelt High School (Corona), posted a 9-3 record and led the conference with a 0.92 earned run average and 98 strikeouts in 83-1/3 innings of work.

Joining Zink on the first-team all-conference list were Riverside teammates Chelsea Ponce and Lindsay Monk while Bolin was joined by Saddleback teammate Chelsea Bertoglio. Also making the first-team all-conference list were Cypress' Brianne Webster, Marilyn Toriz, and Jessica Reichner along with Santiago Canyon College's Faith Brinnon and Sierra Gallego and Santa Ana's Hannah Dowling.

Being named to the second-team all-conference list were Arren Nunez and Monique Hernandez from Cypress, Chelsea Rosario from Fullerton, and both Amanda Webster and Sheila Samarin from Golden West. Joining them were Gina Grijalva of Riverside, Mandy Gutierrez and Shannon Wilkison of Saddleback, Shelly Tait and Kiki Sepulveda of Santa Ana, and both Lana Rutkin and Krystal Hoham of Santiago Canyon. Santiago Canyon College head coach Lisa Camarco was the unanimous selection for conference Coach of the Year.
