Irvine Valley's Kim Earns Conference MVP Award

Irvine Valley College freshman Sally Kim was named as the Orange Empire Conference women’s golf Player of the Year on Wednesday following the final round of the two-day, 36-hole conference championship event held at the Los Serranos Country Club’s north course in Chino Hills.  Kim, who averaged 76.4 strokes in conference, edged out sophomore teammate Foya Lazare (76.7) by two strokes with a final round score of 82 to overtake Lazare who had a one-stroke lead heading into Wednesday’s round before carding an 85.

Irvine Valley's Nicole Rivera named MVP with Ben Burnett of Irvine Valley College and Gary Sabella of Saddleback College Named Co-Coach of the Year

Irvine Valley College sophomore Nicole Rivera was able to duplicate the individual conference accolades she picked up as a freshman and was named as the Orange Empire Conference's Player of the Year for 2010. Rivera trailed Saddleback's Grace Komoroczy on the leader board for the entire season until the two-day, 36-hole conference championship.

Rivera shot rounds of 79 and 75 during the conference championship while Komoroczy, who had been sick the week prior to and during the championship, posted rounds of 83 and 78 to finish second in average scoring. Rivera ended up with a 77.2 average while Komoroczy posted a 78.0 average.

Irvine Valley's Chelsea Kasprowicz and Kaycee Fuller also earned first-team all-conference recognition. Kasprowicz shot rounds of 78 and 75 at the conference championship to finish with a season average of 79.9 strokes per round.

Fuller had two of her best rounds of the season with a 79 and 77 to end the year with an 81.1 average. Making the second-team all-conference list were Saddleback's Samantha Godges (81.5) and Hanna Stuart (82.9) along with Irvine Valley's Taylor Moore (83.2) and Foya Lazare (83.9).

Godges had rounds of 84 and 83 at the conference championship while Stuart posted scores of 83 and 82. Moore carded an 85 and an 81 while Lazare posted scores of 76 and 82.

2009 Orange Empire Conference Championships

El Prado Golf Course – Santiago Canyon College was able to hold off  Saddleback College and win not only the Orange Empire Conference Finals tournament, but also the conference title that Saddleback was still within reach to steal away from the Hawks.

McKenna Corriea led Santiago Canyon with a two-day total of 154 (74-80) on the El Prado course with Aprille Daugherty just two strokes back at 156 (75-81) as the Hawks posted a 36-hole team score of 636.  Saddleback was second with a team score of 683 while Santa Ana (757) and Fullerton (849) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Despite not able to post a team score, Irvine Valley had the individual medalist at the conference finals in Nicole Rivera as she carded a two-day total of 3-over-par 147 (76-71).  Sam Roberts of Irvine Valley posted a 161 (79-82) as did Katie Robinson of Santiago Canyon (84-77).  Saddleback’s top finisher was Linda Edelstein at 162 (85-77).
