Cypress College Takes Title, Santa Ana's Blaysen Varnadoe Named MVP

At the annual post-conference Orange Empire Conference women's basketball coaches meeting, the OEC coaches selected the First and Second All-Orange Empire Conference Teams while also selecting a Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year.

Santa Ana College's Blaysen Varnadoe was named the OEC Most Valuable Player and Cypress College Head Coach Margaret Mohr was named the OEC Coach of the Year after guiding her Chargers to the 2016 title.

Varnadoe, a freshman forward from Foothill High School, led the conference with a 20.4 points per game average during OEC competition while also finishing second with 12.9 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high 34 points, twice, in back-to-back games against Orange Coast College and Saddleback College. Her top rebounding performance came in the Dons first OEC meeting with Cypress when she grabbed 19 rebounds.

Mohr received the coaching honors as she led Cypress to the 2016 Orange Empire Conference Championship with a record of 10-2. The Chargers only two setbacks came against Irvine Valley College and Orange Coast College. Following their loss to Irvine Valley, the Chargers closed out the season with four-straight wins to claim the title.
