Irvine Valley College Grabs OEC Title and Co-Players of the Year
The Lasers went undefeated en route to the 2012 Orange Empire Conference Championship while Kate Cho and Sally Kim were named Co-Players of the Year.
The Irvine Valley women's golf team went undefeated in Orange Empire Conference play, capturing the conference title with a perfect 21-0 record. The Lasers' only threat came from district rival Saddleback (13-8), which came within four strokes of the Lasers (336-340) on the Diamond Bar golf course in a match hosted by Fullerton. The Lasers had an average margin of victory of over 30 strokes in each of their 10 conference rounds.
Kate Cho and Sally Kim of Irvine Valley were named as the conference Co-Players of the Year after Cho averaged 74.9 strokes per round while Kim averaged 75.0per round. Kim was the medalist at the conference championship by a stroke, but Cho had a two stroke lead heading into that event. Laser teammates Halle Young and Vanessa Honnes both averaged 78.5 strokes per round during the season and also made first-team all-conference honors along with Stephanie Ellingwood of Fullerton (80.0).
Taylor Shweiki (80.1) and Shaiyana Sam (84.0), both of Irvine Valley, were named to the second-team all-conference along with Saddleback's Makenzie Fahr (81.4), Jazmin Grajales (83.5), Elizabeth Mulcahy (85.6) and Jessica Whitt (85.6).
These 11 individuals qualified for the CCCAA Southern Region Championship scheduled for November 5-6 at the San Luis Rey Downs Resort and Country Club in Bonsall, along with Cuyamaca College's Christie Pasternick (86.0).
