Riverside Women's Track & Field Claims 13th-Straight Conference Title
Riverside City College won its 13th-straight Orange Empire Conference Championship Saturday.
The Tigers finished with 337.50 team points, followed by Orange Coast College with 285.50 points. Saddleback College took third with 53 points.
Riverside's Nadia Munoz was named the OEC Women's Track Athlete of the Year following the meet.
Munoz, who won the 10K last week, claimed the 5K with a time of 18 minutes, 18.06 seconds after making her move to first with two laps to go. OCC's Liberty Miller followed in second (18:20.80), while RCC's Citlaly Ruiz finished in third with a time of 19:27.56.
OCC's Miller won the 1500-meter race, beating her competition by over 20 seconds. She clocked in at 4:44.42, while Golden West College's Lowyn Pereyda took second in 5:06.27 and Belle Baker (OCC) followed in third with a time of 5:11.06.
Riverside swept the 100-meter hurdles as Kierstin Marpaung won the event in 16.02 seconds. Warrior followed in second with a time of 16.78 seconds, while Taleyah Graves clocked in at 17.31 seconds to take third.
Orange Coast's Jasmin Trujillo won the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.05 seconds, while RCC's Janel Lugo-Bourbonnias took second (58.37 seconds), edging out teammate Hayes (58.87 seconds) by .5 seconds.
RCC's Kiarah Rivers won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.41 seconds, while Catalina Teran was just. 01 seconds behind her in second. Orange Coast's Chloe Guerena rounded out the top three with a time of 12.59 seconds.
Seven seconds separated the top three in the 800-meter event as Golden West's Pereyda won the race in 2:31.34. OCC's Baker took second in 2:36.81, while Saddleback's Brenna McKinnon finished third with a time of 2:38.45.
Riverside's Taleyah Graves won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.16, followed by OCC's Ana Chupinsky finished in second with a time of 1:08.17 and Riverside's Elizabeth Hammond took third in 1:10.33.
RCC's Teran won the 200-meter dash in 25.42 seconds, followed by fellow Tiger Rivers in 25.73 seconds. The Pirates saw Trujillo take third in 25.84 seconds.
The Tigers' Teran also won the pole vault, clearing 3.05 meters on her second try, while two Pirates followed after her. Kiarah Palacio took second after clearing 2.90 meters on her first try and Kendall Chrisman took third with a mark of 2.00 meters.
OCC's Palacio won the javelin with a mark of 31.16 meters, while fellow Pirate Chrisman took second at 25.99 meters. Santa Ana's Victoria Navarro rounded out the top three with a toss of 22.54 meters.
Orange Coast's Abigail Gavrilovic won the hammer, passing the 50-meter mark on her fifth attempt (50.05 meters). Esra Mor led a bunch of Tigers in the hammer, taking second with a mark of 43.32 meters, while Skylar Svidergol followed in third with a mark of 36.04 meters.
The Pirates also got a win from Chupinsky in the triple jump (10.66 meters). She edged out Saddleback's Emily Fuhrmann (10.64 meters) by just .06 meters. RCC's Marpaung took third in the triple jump, clearing 10.43 meters on both her first and final attempts.
Riverside won the 4x100 relay (Sarah Hernandez, Catalina Teran, Kiarah Rivers, TaleyahGraves) with a time of 48.08 seconds. OCC followed in second with a time of 49.65 seconds, while Saddleback took third in 52.58 seconds.
The Tigers (Janel Lugo-Bourbonnias, Kiarah Rivers, Catalina Teran, Taleyah Graves) also won the 4x400 relay in 3:54.51. The Pirates took second with a time of 4:00.63 and the Hornets came in third (4:21.16).
