CHARGER FLAG FOOTBALL TEAM CAPS HISTORIC INAUGURAL SEASON
Cypress flag football closed its debut season as OEC Co-Champions and tournament runner-up.
CYPRESS, CA - Cypress College flag football closed out the first season in program history, finishing with a 18-6 overall record and 5-3 in Orange Empire Conference play. The Chargers secured a 2nd place finish in the OEC Tournament and shared the title of Co-Champions with Irvine Valley College in the regular season. The Chargers opened the year strong, rolling through a six-game winning streak that set the tone for a competitive and resilient season.
The Chargers' postseason run featured one of their most defining moments of the year, avenging an earlier tournament championship loss to Saddleback by defeating them in the OEC Semifinal, showcasing growth, adjustment, and composure in a high-stakes matchup.
Offensively, Cypress was powered by standout quarterback play from Mia Cabral, who surpassed 1,000 passing yards on the season, threw 20+ touchdowns, averaged approximately 145 yards per game, completed 60% of her passes, and was sacked just three times. Supporting the offense, Maddy Banks contributed 8+ touchdowns and over 700 passing yards with a ~52% completion rate, while Melony Bernabe helped provide additional versatility and depth in the offensive rotation.
Defensively, the Chargers were anchored by elite playmaking and physicality. Devoni Ray led the unit with 15+ touchdowns on offense combined with defensive dominance, adding over 60 tackles and 5 interceptions, earning recognition as OEC Defensive Player of the Year. In the secondary, Alisa Kangas was a game-changer with 10 interceptions, 40+ tackles, and a pick-six.
The Chargers also earned multiple postseason honors across the roster. On the All-OEC First Team Offense were Lelani Lito, Mia Cabral, and Emma Farias. All-OEC Second Team Offense selections included Melony Bernabe, Maddy Banks, and Alisa Kangas. On the defensive side, First Team honors went to Lelani Lito, Michea Wells, and Alisa Kangas, while Second Team selections included Richelle Rorick, Sara Gonzalez, and Cami Flewellen.
