CHAMPION HORNETS EARN TOP HONORS HIGHLIGHTING THE ALL-OEC AWARDS
The Fullerton College Hornets men's basketball team captured its fifth consecutive Orange Empire Conference (OEC) championship at season's end. The historic run also produced three of the conference's top individual honors: Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
Fullerton sophomore guard Yoda Oke earned conference MVP honors following an incredible undefeated conference campaign. He ranked among the top five in multiple offensive categories, averaging 15.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 39.5 percent from three-point range and 56.2 percent overall. Oke scored in double figures in all but one conference game, including eight contests with 15 or more points. His conference-high performance came in a dominant win over Saddleback, where he scored 23 points.
Fullerton freshman guard Donovan Pitts was named Defensive Player of the Year. He averaged nearly three rebounds and two assists per game, along with just under one steal and one block per contest.
Head coach Perry Webster was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Hornets to their fifth straight conference title and maintaining a top-two ranking in the 3CMBCA poll throughout the season. Fullerton finished a flawless 14–0 in conference play and 27–1 overall and will enter the 3C2A Southern Regional playoffs as the No. 1 seed beginning Wednesday.
Riverside sophomore guard Kollen Murphy earned Offensive Player of the Year honors after a standout season. He averaged 17.9 points per game in conference play to lead the league and scored in double figures 10 times, including eight games with 20 or more points. Murphy's 30-point performance in a mid-January win over Irvine Valley highlighted his conference play and helped the Tigers secure the No. 9 seed in the regional playoff bracket.
