Santa Ana Tops State Rankings and Week One Awards
The Dons, currently 10-0, found themselves atop the CCCFCA Coaches Poll in both Southern California and the state while Keila Tenorio and Frances Campoy were honored for their week-one performances.
Before extending their hot streak to 10-0, the Santa Ana College Dons were voted the top team in the state on February 13 with a 7-0 record. The Dons went from unranked, but receiving votes in theSoCal Pre-Season Poll, all the way to #1 in the State and SoCal. Santa Ana did so on the strength of their 7-0 record that included a 9-4 win over defending State Champs Palomar College, who checks in at #4 in the State and #2 in the South. After the Dons opened the season 3-0, they were awarded with the season's first set of accolades as Frances Campoy was named the SoCal Pitcher of the Week and Keila Tenorio was named the SoCal Player of the Week. See the full release here.
Southern California Player of the Week – Keila Tenoria – Santa Ana College
Sophomore Keila Tenorio helped get the Dons off to a 3-0 start. Tenorio was 6 for 8 at the plate, with a double, a triple, two RBI's, and four runs scored. Tenorio is a outfielder for the Dons.
Southern California Pitcher of the Week – Frances Campoy – Santa Ana College
Sophomore Frances Campoy factored into all three of the Dons victories to open the season. After being the winning pitcher in the Dons first two games, Campoy earned the save in the Dons 9-4 victory over defending state champion Palomar, holding the Comets to just one hit over four innings. Campoy allowed just six hits total in her 14 innings of work while recording six strikeouts. She also allowed just one unearned run to keep a 0.00 ERA as she went 2-0 with one save.
