San Clemente, CA – Palomar College sophomore Sadye Busby and Fullerton College freshman Kacy Kaichi shared the individual medalist honors at the Orange Empire Conference championship held this week at the San Clemente Municipal Golf Course. Busby, who earned the conference's Player of the Year award after averaging 74.1 strokes per round, carded a 78 on the first day and an 81 on the second day for her 159. Kaichi, who averaged 80.4 strokes per round this season to earn first-team all-conference honors, carded rounds of 80 and 79, respectively, during the championship event.
Palomar's Jen Goh shot a 2-over-par 75 for the best score on the first day of the tournament but missed the second day. Fullerton's Nea Bennett carded a 76 on the second day for that days best score. Bennett had posted an 89 on the first day and ended up with a two-day total of 165 to tie for seventh at the championship.
Irvine Valley's Cindy Dang placed third at the conference championship with a 161 (78-83) while the Mt. San Jacinto pair of Iris Chung (79-84) and Cheyenne Ackerman (83-80) carded scores of 163 along with Saddleback sophomore Makenzie Fahr (79-84).
Fullerton picked up 14 team victories as the Hornets posted team scores of 338 and 327 to post a low team score of 665. Palomar finished second in the team scoring at 675 with Saddleback third at 680 and College of the Desert fourth at 685. It was the second time that Fullerton had edged Palomar this season, but it wouldn't be enough to catch the Comets for the conference title.
