Orange Coast's Riggs Earns MVP Honors for Women's Volleyball

Orange Coast College sophomore outside hitter Karlee Riggs was named as the Orange Empire Conference's Most Valuable Player for the 2012 season in recent voting by the conference coaches.

Riggs, a Tustin High School grad who will be attending the University of Hawaii in the Spring, notched 373 kills and 195 digs in 2012. Her outstanding play also earned her a spot on the 2012 All-State Team.

As a freshman, Riggs earned first-team, all-conference honors with 375 kills and 192 digs in 2011.

Riggs finished her two-year career at Coast with 748 kills, second all-time in school history behind two-time All-American Kiwi Winkler's 895.

Golden West, which won the conference title and finished second in the state this season, earned the most all-conference selections with three first team, three second team and one honorable mention picks.

Sophomore middle blocker Bethanee Bogs and sophomore outside hitters Alyssa Hubbard and Alicia Utke were each chosen to the first team with sophomore libero Cori O'Donoghue, sophomore outside hitter Saelina Dunn and freshman setter Jade Gray being picked to the second team. Golden West's honorable mention selection was sophomore middle blocker Kami Dickerson.

Joining Riggs on all-conference teams for Orange Coast were sophomore setter Allison Lumsden and sophomore middle blocker Morgan Link to the first team, sophomore libero Andi Frisina and sophomore opposite Isabel Emerich to the second team and freshman middle blocker Kourtney Chadderdon as honorable mention.

Irvine Valley was represented by sophomore outside hitters Allison Cook and Avae Masaniai and freshman libero Becky Moodie to the first team and freshman middle blocker Hayley White and sophomore outside hitter Lauren Bender as honorable mention selections.

Cypress was led by sophomore outside hitter Ashley Flores and sophomore middle blocker Kristen Taylor as first-team picks. Sophomore middle blocker Kayla Pace and sophomore setter Camille Valenzuela were chosen to the second team and sophomore outside hitter/opposite Ashley Crawford and freshman outside hitter Cassandra Jimenez were named honorable mention.

Fullerton had two first team and two second team picks. Sophomore outside hitter Jordyn Hecker and freshman libero Celeste Snider were each named first team and sophomore middle blocker Emilee Sorbom and sophomore setter Laura Hartzheim were both picked to the second team.

Riverside had freshman outside hitter Cherylain Dizon and sophomore middle blocker Kayla Johns named first team all-conference with freshman libero Dorothea Williams and freshman setter Jenny Norton named second team. Sophomore outside hitter Patricia Gauthier and freshman middle blocker Cora Wells were each selected honorable mention picks.

Saddleback saw freshman outside hitter Mikayla Buck and freshman libero MacKenzie Kaus chosen to the second team with freshman setter Karina Rejtharek picked as honorable mention.

And Santa Ana had sophomore opposite Marissa Kohler chosen second team with freshman libero Netina Moemoe earning an honorable mention nod.
